Hiatus
At the end of the national election cycle in 2016, many in our nation were feeling traumatized and expressing shock at how deeply caustic our national dialogue had become.
From February 2017 through May 2018, the Guild for Civil Dialogue formed to develop, learn and practice new skills for civility to support robust, substantive conversation on the issues of our day that have deeply divided families, friends and neighbors.
Energy needs someplace to go. Participants came burdened, in need of a place to discharge feelings of shock, anxiety and outrage. We made room for respectful expression of these feelings, and explored their underpinnings. We studied and discussed the various drivers of our public discontent, and worked to gain somewhat sympathetic insight to opposing points of view.
Having found some comfort and helpful guidance, we've hit the pause button in order to take a break and assess whether and how to move forward.
Paradise Community Guilds aspires to "Be the community you want to live in." The Guild for Civil Dialogue is one way we've lived out that vision.
Thanks to our many 2017-2018 participants! Please circle back for announcements concerning the future for Civil Dialogue at Norton Buffalo Hall.
